Sedation in dentistry is used to ease anxieties and phobias, helping create a calm and relaxed dental experience for the patient. It can also be used for patients with certain developmental disabilities. Sedation can be used for any dental work ranging from comprehensive, full mouth rehabilitation to routine cleanings and x-rays.
How sedation is used depends on the patient’s needs.
At Blashford Dentistry, nitrous oxide (commonly known as laughing gas) can be used. Patients remain awake through the entire procedure, albeit much more relaxed. If a deeper level of sedation is required, a consultation will be performed to assess the patient’s needs.
